Doula is a greek word meaning a woman who helps another woman in childbirth. A person providing this support is called a Labor Support Doula. There is also Post-Partum Doula Support. Joni is trained in both categories, as well as Childbirth Education, Pre-Natal Yoga, Massage, Nutrition and Therapy. She began her formal birthing training in Seattle, one of the leading centers for midwifery, natural childbirth, breastfeeding education and childbirth reform. She is now available in the NY/NJ area. Please inquire about rates and availability. She is also seeking to network with other birthing practitioners to provide referrals for full services for expecting families.
See What is a Doula? for details, statistical benefits of having a doula attend you during labor and birth, and more.

| Studies have shown that natural (peaceful, uninterrupted, non-intervention) births lead to greater health of the mother and child, greater bonding and love (even chemically), lower costs - short and long term. Studies have shown that violent beginnings (birth), including interference, interventions and drug use, have violent reverberant repercussions, including more war and higher drug use among those born on drugs (mothers used medications during labor and birth). Evidence proves that having doula support throughout labor and childbirth leads to shorter labors, less drug use, less intervention, less C-sections, better bonding with baby, better communication between partners, more satisfaction with birth experience and care given. This is one of the best investments you can make! - joni |
| "If we hope to create a non-violent world where respect and kindness replace fear and hatred, we must begin with how we treat each other at the beginning of life. For that is where our deepest patterns are set. From these roots grow fear and alienation ~ or love and trust." ~ Suzanne Arms |
